Strawberry Matcha Latte

This iced drink stacks three layers in the glass: mashed sweet strawberries, cold milk and a pour of green matcha on top. It's at its best with ripe, fragrant berries from the market.
Serves 4 · 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh strawberries, hulled and finely chopped
- 4 to 4½ teaspoons granulated sugar, depending on how sweet your berries are
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- ½ cup room-temperature water
- 4 to 6 cups milk, dairy or nondairy
- Ice
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mash the strawberries and sugar together with a muddler, potato masher or fork until well combined. For a smoother drink, pulse them in a blender instead. Set aside.
- Whisk the matcha with the water, following the directions on your matcha package, until no lumps of powder remain.
- Spoon the strawberry mixture into 4 tall glasses and fill each glass halfway with ice.
- Slowly pour 1 to 1½ cups milk into each glass over the ice, then float about 2 tablespoons of the matcha on top so you get three distinct layers.
- Stir before drinking. A wide straw makes it easier to sip up the strawberry bits.
